m-banking in Latin America
The number of mobile telephone users now exceeds the number of people with bank accounts in many developing countries, and this facilitates the use of the mobile network to provide banking services in poor and rural zones, according to Judith Mariscal in her paper "Móviles para el desarrollo" presented at the meetng of the annual conference of the Latin American Studies Association - LASA in June 2009.

El número de usuarios de móvil ya supera al de personas con cuenta bancaria en muchos países en vías de desarrollo, lo que facilita el uso de esta infraestructura para proveer de servicios bancarios a zonas pobres o rurales, señala Judith Mariscal en el documento Móviles para el desarrollo . Los resultados de la investigación realizada fueron presentados en la ultima reunión de la Asociación de Estudios Latinoamericanos - LASA realizada en junio de 2009.

DIRSI partner organises Mobile 2.0: Beyond voice?
DIRSI's partner, LIRNEasia, organised a pre-conference workshop on “Mobile2.0: Beyond Voice?” at the annual meeting of the International Communication Association – ICA . Over two days (20 and 21 May 2009) twenty-four papers were presented at seven sessions and Tim Kelly from the World Bank's infoDev programme offered the keynote presentation.

Mobile 2.0: Más allá de la voz?
La pre-conferencia Mobile 2.0: Beyond voice?, organizada por la International Communication Association y LIRNEasia, tuvo el objetivo de ver cómo el uso de las TIC, en particular, el de la telefonía móvil y sus nuevas aplicaciones, contribuye al desarrollo y a la mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas. Aileen Agüero (DIRSI) participó y nos envió este informe.
